Family FunSpot: Island Tiki Lanterns

Island Tiki Lantern

Island Tiki Lanterns
9/22/21

We took a cool night light concept and gave it a tropical twist. These are not only easy, but cute—and they’ll look great on a party table, dinner table, or nightstand.

Island Tiki Lanterns Materials

You will need:

  • 8” x 10” sheets of craft foam
  • Ribbons
  • Dollar store silk flowers
  • Flameless votive
  • Low temp hot melt glue
  • hot melt glue gun
  • scissors
  • pencil
  • ruler
  • pipe cleaner

Instructions:

Fold the sheet of craft foam in half lengthwise.

With your pencil and ruler, draw a line lengthwise on the paper one inch from the top of the unfolded edge. This is your “do not cut line” that marks where you stop cutting.

Now, take your pencil and ruler and draw lines one inch apart from the folded edge to the do not cut line.

Cut the paper along the lines to the “do not cut” line.

Now unfold the paper.

Roll the paper into a cylinder and hot melt the narrow edges of the paper together where they meet. The middle of the lantern will flare out at the crease.

Hot melt glue to affix the pipe cleaner handle to the top of the lantern.

Next hot melt the flowers on the lantern and tie colorful ribbons on the handle.

Last, activate the flameless votive and place lantern over it.
