Creepy Caramel Apples

Creepy Caramel Apples

Nothing tastes better than a tart, autumn apple coated in creamy caramel. The collision of flavors is one of our very favorite combinations. Wanna take a caramel apple to the next level? Try a few of our creepy caramel apples—maybe we’ll inspire you to experiment by trying a few add sweet accessories.

Ingredients

You will need:

  • 10-12 tart, firm apples* (We like Haralsons or Granny Smith)
  • 2 cups packed brown sugar
  • ½ cup butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup light corn syrup
  • A pinch of salt
  • 1 can (14 oz.) sweetened condensed milk
  • 10-12 lollypop or craft sticks (We bought ours at a craft store)
  • Gummy worms and assorted candies
  • Oreo crumbs, crushed candies, etc
  • waxed paper
  • Candy thermometer (We found ours at Target)
  • Cookie sheet or jelly roll pan
  • A 3-quart saucepan

 

 

Instructions:

Butter wax paper and set aside

Prepare apples by removing stems, and placing sticks in apples

Place assorted candies into bowls and set them aside

Melt butter in a 2-quart saucepan; add brown sugar, corn syrup, and salt

Cook over mixture over medium heat, stirring occasionally, 10-12 minutes or until caramel comes to a full boil

Stir in sweetened condensed milk

Continue cooking, stirring occasionally, until the candy thermometer reaches 248°F

Remove from heat; stir in vanilla

Dip the apples into the caramel mixture and roll to get a nice even coating

Roll the apple bottom in Oreo crumbs or candy pieces

Place apples onto the buttered waxed paper and garnish with a gummy worm

Refrigerate and enjoy!

Spooky Slime

Spooky Slime

The arrival of Halloween means that it’s slime season! This blingy and creepy slime will entertain the kids on a rainy day or a foggy night.

Materials

You will need:

  • Large mixing bowl
  • Lidded container
  • 10 ounces of clear school glue
  • 10 ounces of water
  • 8 ounces of liquid starch
  • 1/4 cup glitter—we used hot green and purple
  • 1/2 cup of mini (plastic) bats or spiders https://amzn.to/3v9yrIi
  • Ziploc bags for storage

 

 

Instructions:

Combine the school glue and water

Add the starch slowly until it starts to thicken

*If the mixture is too globby add water, if the mixture is too runny add more starch

Add the glitter and plastic spiders

Spoon into Ziploc bags and refrigerate for future play—slime lasts for about 7-10 days

Trolls Headbands

Trolls Headbands

With Halloween just around the corner, these adorable headbands could be just the inspiration for an easy and trendy Halloween costume for the kids—or maybe the entire family?

Materials

You will need:

  • Dollar store headbands
  • Tulle ribbon
  • Multi-color ribbon
  • Felt
  • Hot melt glue gun

 

Instructions:

Cut the tulle ribbon into 12-20” pieces.

Fold each in half and loop-tie onto the headband.

Push the pieces toward the middle of the headband.

Secure the pieces into a “high” ponytail and tie them with a ribbon.

Glue felt leaves and flowers at the base of the headband.
